Columbus Public Health terminates some employees early due to federal funding cuts
COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) -- Columbus Public Health has terminated some employees early due to funding pause, a spokesperson confirmed to NBC4.
CPH terminated 11 full-time employees who worked in the infectious disease investigations area after CDC funding to the COVID-19 Enhanced Operations was cut, the spokesperson said.
The employees who were terminated were originally supposed to remain through the rest of the year, when funding was set to expire, but had to be let go early.
"This reduction in staff is particularly concerning during a national measles outbreak, including cases in Ohio," the spokesperson said in a statement. "Additionally, we are concerned about more potential cuts in federal funding and the impact they may have on our ability to protect the health and safety of our residents."
Columbus Public Health expressed its commitment to improving the community's health.
