Mets seek first home win of the season during opening day
NEW YORK (PIX11) – The much-anticipated New York Mets home opener is being held on Friday.
The Amazins are now 3-3 and are looking for their first home win of the season with superstar Juan Soto. Fans are expected to show up to Citi Field early for a block party that kicks off right around noon.
The Mets are now third in the NL East after besting the Marlins in extra innings, thanks in part to hot bats from Pete Alonso. The first baseman is now back amid uncertainty in the off-season.
The home opener will also include a special tribute to Mets Hall of Famer Ed Kranepool, who died last year. Team jerseys will feature patches with Kranepool’s No. 7.
Members of the 2000 and 2015 Mets NLCS Championship teams, including John Franco and Bartolo Colon, will take part in the ceremonial first pitch.
Singer-actress Lissa deGuzman of Broadway’s “Wicked,” along with members of the NYPD and FDNY, will be performing at the game.
Parking lots open at 12:10 p.m. Citi Field gates open an hour later and the home opener – Mets vs. Blue Jays – kicks off at 3:10 p.m.
