Edmond Energy-Saving Program offers free trees to residents
EDMOND, Okla. (KFOR) — Edmond Electric and Edmond Urban Forestry are working together with the Arbor Day Foundation to give free trees to residents through their Energy-Saving Trees Program.
The program, which started in 2016, happens once in the spring and once in the fall, and has given away 3,135 free trees to its residents through Edmond Electric.
It also offers an online mapping tool to help decide where the best location is to plant the tree at your home, giving the greatest energy and money-saving benefits.
Edmond Electric will give away 225 3-gallon and 5-gallon trees, and residents will be able to reserve a tree starting on April 7 at 8 a.m., and will be available for pickup on April 10 and April 11, from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. at Bickham-Rudkin Park.
Trees are limited to one per address or household.
The following species of trees will be available:
- Burgundy Hearts Redbud
- Northern Red Oak
- Shoal Creek Chaste Tree
- Stanley Plum
- Catalpa
- Wisconsin Weeping Willow
Residents will be able to remain in their vehicles during pickup, and staff members will load the tree. It is encouraged to bring a large trash bag to help protect from the soil.
Due to the size of the trees, SUVs and trucks are recommended during pickup.
Residents who are unable to pick up the tree on their own will be allowed to have someone else do it on their behalf, but they must provide the name of the person for whom the tree was reserved and the confirmation email or number.
