Bears to sign veteran QB Case Keenum as mentor to Caleb Williams, Tyson Bagent: source
The Bears have been looking to add a veteran to their quarterbacks room to help mentor Caleb Williams, and they found one in Case Keenum.
The 37-year-old journeyman agreed to a one-year deal worth up to $3 million on Thursday, a source said. He’s likely to be the third-stringer behind Williams and Tyson Bagent, who will be learning a new offense under new coach Ben Johnson, making it likely the Bears will carry all three quarterbacks on their active roster this season.
Keenum went 1-1 in two starts for the Texans last season, completing 34 of 53 passes for 291 yards with a touchdown and three interceptions. The last time he was a full-time starter was with the Broncos in 2018.
This will be Keenum’s 11th NFL season and eighth team since the Texans signed him to their practice squad in 2012 after a stellar college career at the University of Houston.
