MTA employee fired for running side hustle on the job
NEW YORK (PIX11) – One former MTA employee has one less stream of income after not sticking to his day job.
A former Computer Support Analyst for MTA Headquarters was fired after he was found to be running his personal sneaker business during company hours and with the company vehicle, according to the MTA Inspector General (OIG).
The worker also failed to disclose two additional jobs he held outside the agency, which is against the MTA’s policy, the OIG’s report said.
An investigation found that from 2021 to 2024, the Computer Support Analyst worked at his secondary job during MTA hours or modified his schedule to accommodate his outside employment.
Additionally, investigators found that he used the MTA work computer to access sneaker-related websites and used the transit agency’s email for activities related to his outside employment.
The worker was found to have used his MTA-assigned vehicle for his sneaker business and kept it overnight, which is against the agency’s policy, the OIG’s report said.
Investigators said they also found more than 300 pornographic websites on the MTA’s computer after the analyst linked his personal Google account to the computer’s Chrome application.
Due to the worker’s investigation, his supervisor was also disciplined for not adequately reviewing time, attendance and MTA vehicle usage records.
