Amsterdam to shut off water near Henrietta Blvd Hill, Monday
AMSTERDAM, N.Y. (NEWS10)-- A faulty pressure reducing valve has caused the city to turn off the water line underneath the Henrietta Blvd Hill starting Monday, April 7. According to Mayor Michael Cinquanti, the water shut down will start at 8 p.m. until 5 a.m. the next morning.
According to an announcement from the mayor, the city has been operating with a faulty pressure valve and have been in the process of having a custom valve made. The city said they hoped to replace the valve without shutting the water off.
However, when city officials excavated the area, it was determined the repair could not be made safely or effectively with the water turned on. Once the repair is made, residents and businesses will be placed under a boil water advisory until testing confirms it's no longer needed.
Mayor Cinquanti said in the meantime, residents near Henrietta Blvd Hill may experience high water pressure. According to the city, when high pressure levels are present, hot water tanks may release water through the pressure release lines.
"This is a normal reaction, but residents are advised to keep an eye on their hot water heaters and if the leaks become significant, turn the intake valve to the tanks down a notch," the mayor's announcement said.
In a way to combat high water pressure, the city has partially opened fire hydrants on West Main Street. City officials said updates on the issues will be released when available.
