A cause of death has been confirmed for New York Yankees star Brett Gardner’s 14-year-old son, Miller Gardner.
Miller was found in his hotel room March 21 after he and several family members got sick on their vacation. Officials in Costa Rica have now said he passed from carbon monoxide poisoning.

“The toxicology results are in, and the carboxyhemoglobin test found a saturation of 64%. Concentrations above 50% are already lethal,” Randall Zúñiga, director of the Judicial Investigation Agency, reportedly said in a press release, which has circulated from local news outlets in Costa Rica. “In this case, the saturation percentage is higher, thus proving the police’s hypothesis that the death was due to exposure to carbon monoxide.”
In a statement, officials from the hotel they were allegedly staying at, Arenas Del Mar Beachfront & Rainforest Resort, told Page Six, “Out of respect for the ongoing judicial process and the family’s privacy, we will refrain from commenting on any hypotheses or possible causes. Our priority remains the safety and well-being of our guests and staff, and we reaffirm our ongoing commitment to the highest operational standards within our facilities.”
