At least 21 killed in blast at illegal firecracker warehouse in India
Indian media reports that 21 people were killed in an explosion and fire at a fireworks factory in Gujarat.
The incident occurred on Tuesday morning in the Disa region of Gujarat, where the explosion took place in a fireworks warehouse.
Local authorities added that the warehouse was operating illegally and the explosion occurred while storing firecrackers.
Most of the victims were from the neighboring Madhya Pradesh state, who had recently come to work at the illegal warehouse in the Banaskantha industrial area.
The explosion was so powerful that the victims’ clothing was thrown hundreds of meters away from the blast site.
This tragic event in Gujarat occurred just a day after eight people were killed in a similar explosion at an illegal fireworks factory in West Bengal.
The explosion caused significant damage, destroying the warehouse, adjacent factory walls, and nearby residential homes. Among the victims were family members of workers living near the factory, including women and children.
Indian security officials are currently investigating the incident further, while the dangers of illegal fireworks factories remain a serious concern in the country.
These events highlight the risks associated with the widespread use of fireworks, especially in countries like India, where such materials are frequently used in public and private celebrations. The strict regulations on fireworks sales, storage, and usage aim to prevent such accidents but are often ignored by illegal operators.
