'Selfish': MAGA lawmakers turn on each other as GOP battle rages over 'hijacked' Congress
Far-right Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL) has picked a fight with the House GOP leadership over a proposed rule to allow members of Congress to cast votes remotely from maternity leave.
And fellow MAGA lawmakers are starting to publicly turn on her.
Luna, who herself gave birth two years ago, has circulated a bipartisan discharge petition to force the rule change, which prompted House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) and House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-LA) to hold a vote to put new restrictions on discharge petitions. Over half a dozen Republicans joined Luna to vote with all Democrats against the move, prompting GOP leadership to shut down all House business for the rest of the week and vow to bring up the same vote on Monday.

Johnson and Scalise have both said they consider proxy voting unconstitutional, even though a lawsuit they signed onto arguing such failed in court, and even though Johnson himself has cast proxy votes.
As the fight rages on, however, other far-right lawmakers are lashing out at Luna for standing firm in this battle.
"I can’t believe that Congress was hijacked this week over Luna’s resolution to allow members to skip work and vote from home," wrote Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) on X. "As a mom, I know all about seasons of life. If you aren’t capable of doing the job your constituents sent you to do, then you should step aside and let someone else do it. We have critical bills to pass to prevent illegals from voting and to stop judges from vetoing President Trump’s agenda. It’s a shame that selfish politicians are putting themselves before the American people."
"Thank you for calling out this insanity, @RepMTG!" concurred Rep. Mary Miller (R-IL).
As tension has ratcheted up, Luna, herself frustrated over the lack of support from normally like-minded colleagues on the issue, resigned her position from the far-right House Freedom Caucus.
