Albany man arrested after rape investigation
TROY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The Troy Police Department reported that an arrest was made last week after a longstanding sexual assault investigation. 39-year-old Marcus Cooper of Albany is facing multiple charges.
On December 13, 2024, Troy firefighters and emergency medical personnel transported a victim of a reported sexual assault to a local hospital. Detectives worked with the victim to identify Cooper as a suspect, additionally learning that Cooper and the victim were previously acquainted.
Cooper's identity was further confirmed through evidence processed by New York State Police's Forensic Lab. Police, alongside the Rensselaer County District Attorney's Office, presented their findings to a grand jury, resulting in an indictment warrant being granted in March.
Detectives and U.S. Marshals began searching for Cooper before he turned himself in to Troy Police on March 25. He was charged with first-degree rape, first-degree sexual abuse, and sexual misconduct. Cooper was held at the Rensselaer County Jail after being arraigned at Troy City Court.
