Leading animal charity vows to get BBC star Bruce Parry JAILED after he killed a goat for ‘shock value’ on new TV show
A LEADING animal charity has vowed to get BBC star Bruce Parry jailed after he killed a goat on new TV show.
The adventurer stunned viewers when he suffocated the animal during the new series of his hit show Tribe.
The shocking scenes were filmed in the second episode of the series, in which Bruce, 56, met a tribe called the Mucubal in Angola.
The star was gifted a goat by one of the group’s leaders as a welcome, and a perplexed Bruce asked what he should do with it.
He was then told he must kill it then and there, which initially left Bruce horrified.
The presenter eventually went through with the gruesome act for fear of offending his hosts, explaining how the animals were essential to the tribe for sustenance, currency and gifts.
But as he suffocated the goat on screen, many viewers were left disgusted.
And now leading Animal charity Peta has vowed to have Bruce jailed for carrying out the killing for “shock value”.
In a damning statement, President of Programmes Elisa Allen said: “Bruce Parry would be in jail and facing criminal charges if his abominably cruel goat suffocation had occurred on British soil.
“And PETA will see what action can be taken regardless as he planned this, no doubt, from the UK, sharing responsibility with the BBC.
“For selfish ratings ‘shock value’, a gentle being who otherwise loved to play and jump spent her final moments in abject terror – gasping for air, struggling to stay alive, and bleating for mercy that Parry failed to grant.
“Parry’s excuse of cultural immersion is a failed attempt at washing his hands of an act of wanton cruelty to animals, and the BBC must answer for enabling such cruelty.”
Elisa suggested Bruce make a “sizeable” donation to a sanctuary which specifically cares for goats.
She continued: “If Parry is shaken, he should make amends – perhaps with a sizeable donation to a bona fide goat sanctuary.
“Viewers disturbed by this should reconsider their choices – because every meal, sweater, or scarf can either harm or spare an animal’s life.”
The Sun has approached the BBC for comment.
As the stomach-churning scene aired during Tribe and the goat jolted, Bruce admitted on camera: “This is the most gruesome thing I have ever done.”
He then repeated “Oh my God” on a number of occasions and said: “I wasn’t given any time to consider it or anything, it’s like they held it and said you have to hold this now…so I did.”
