Regional Food Bank unveils new training kitchen
LATHAM, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Leaders of the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York unveiled a state-of-the-art training kitchen, which was years in the making. Officials said it will serve as a site for educational workshops and collaborations with partner agencies discussing best practices for handling and distributing nutritious foods.
Spanning 2,000 square feet, the training kitchen can host up to 400 individuals, offering practical training and educational programs for The Regional Food Bank staff, agency partners, and community members. Certain fundraising initiatives will also be hosted at the kitchen.
The project was supported by $500,000 in state funding secured by Assemblymember Phil Steck in 2023.
"We're always going to have challenges in this area -- food, rent is extremely high," Steck said. "When you have extremely high rent, when you have high costs of energy, when you have high costs of health insurance, people don't have enough left for other things."
If you'd like to contribute to the food bank, they're hosting a food drive on April 26. You can drop off canned goods at the distribution center in Latham on Albany Shaker Road.
