The Tottenham Hotspur chiefs, who are keeping an eye on Johnny Cardoso ahead of their big transfer decision on the midfielder in the summer, would have been impressed with what the 23-year-old produced in Real Betis’ big derby against Sevilla on Sunday.
Tottenham’s £21m option to buy Johnny Cardoso will become active this summer, with the North London club acquiring the clause as part of Giovani Lo Celso’s return to Betis last summer.
The USA international has been in sublime form over recent months and reports indicate that the Spurs top brass have been very impressed with Cardoso’s displays of late.
The prospective Tottenham Hotspur signing showed on Sunday that he has more strings to his bow, making a decisive contribution in the final third as Betis overcame fierce rivals Sevilla.

It was a ruckus atmosphere at the Estadio Benito Villamarin, but Sevilla silenced the home crowd by taking a lead through Ruben Vargas in 17 minutes.
Betis then hit back through Cardoso just eight minutes later, with the midfielder arriving late in the box and striking a sweet volley from around 12 yards out which flew into the bottom corner.
Cucho Hernandez scored the winner in the dying stages of the first period to give the home side all three points. If Tottenham’s scouts were in attendance at the game, they could not have helped but been impressed by Cardoso’s all-round display.
Tottenham need a number six this summer
There is no doubt that Tottenham will be in the market for a number six this summer as Yves Bissouma is expected to leave Spurs at the end of this campaign.
In Cardoso, they have an economical option and a player who has qualities that the North London club lack in their squad.
However, the decision could very much depend on who is in charge in the summer as Ange Postecoglou’s future at Tottenham is said to be in serious doubt.
