Conor McGregor performed instant retirement U-turn SECONDS after hinting UFC career is over
CONOR MCGREGOR seemingly performed an immediate retirement U-turn just seconds after suggesting he’s “done” fighting.
The mixed martial arts legend revealed last weekend that he’s content with his career when asked about the prospect of fighting inside the BKFC ring.
His admission, as well as his doubling down to run for President of Ireland, was interpreted as a hanging up of the gloves.
But in typical McGregor fashion, he immediately performed a U-turn, of sorts, and teased the “greatest comeback” of all time.
After insisting fighters know their worth following his admission that he was offered the chance to fight on Alcatraz, he said: “I hold every pay-per-view record in the book.
“I hold every gate record in the book.
“And my comeback will be slated as the greatest comeback or the biggest, most-anticipated comeback of all time.
“[But] right now Ireland is in my thoughts and that’s where I’m at.
“It will happen, I’m sure and it’s always great to be here and there you go.”
McGregor, 36, hasn’t set foot inside the octagon since breaking his left leg in his trilogy fight with Dustin Poirier in July 2021.
He was set to return to action last June but was forced out of his comeback clash against Michael Chandler with a broken left pinky toe.
UFC supremo Dana White forecast an autumn return for ‘The Notorious’ late last year.
Although the veteran promoter recently cast doubt over the Return of the Mac ever coming to fruition.
When asked about McGregor during the UFC Fight Night 250 post-fight press conference last month, White replied: “Conor?
“Um… Not sure when Conor will be back”
If McGregor does ever fight again, his next outing will be his first since being found civilly liable for assaulting Nikita Hand at a Dublin Hotel in December 2018.
The former two-division champion appealed the verdict returned at Dublin’s High Court last month.
He hopes the introduction of new evidence will overturn the result of the civil trial.
