Spruce Kings Punch Ticket to Playoffs
The Prince George Spruce Kings scored three times on the power play in the third period to complete a 5-0 win over the Powell River Kings to clinch the 8th and final Coastal Conference playoff spot in the Rogers BCHL Playoffs.
The Spruce Kings got on the board at 7:11 of the opening frame as Nicolas Papineau had a Nick Metelkin shot deflect off him and past Vincent Lamberti as Brendan Gillmore picked up the second assist.
A wild sequence ended the first period, as the Spruce Kings got a 4-minute power play coming out of some rough stuff with 4.6 seconds remaining.
In the middle frame, Aidan Carolan scored his first BCHL goal with a great shot off the rush from Corson Maguire and Ryan Wachtel.
The Spruce Kings got an early power play in the third period, as Owen Goodbrand appeared to score on a tight play in front, but it was deemed to have been kicked in.
Moments later, Goodbrand snapped the 3-0 goal home and emphatically pointed to the net to let everyone know it was going to count. Trent LeDrew and Linden Makow drew the assists.
Prince George scored on a 5 on 3 as Brock Cummings won the team scoring race with his 20th of the year making a great move in front. Sasaki and Makow drew the assists.
Will Moore made it 5-0 just 40 seconds later with a great shot from the slot after feeding Papineau through the neutral zone. Charles Gravel earned the second assist.
Ryder Green played the last 11:49 of the game as the Spruce Kings rested Gravel after three straight hard penalties against Powell River.
The Spruce Kings will take on the Chilliwack Chiefs in Round 1 of the Rogers BCHL Playoffs starting next weekend. Stay tuned for the schedule release.
