Next stop, Milwaukee
The Royals fell yet again to the Guardians today, 6-2. They are now 1-2 on the season, heading into a three-game series with the Brewers. With another disappointing and boring loss (other than the 8th inning), there are a couple of key takeaways from this series.
Not only does the back half of the order look nonexistent, but the offense as a whole just looks a bit off. Then again, this is only the third game, and there is no doubt in my mind that the Royals will pick it up soon. Not every team is going to start like the Yankees, putting up a combined 36 runs and too many home runs to count.
Vinnie is starting off hot with some great plate appearances and that first-inning triple. Both Bobby and India looked like they are seeing the ball better, with both collecting a hit.
Aside from that sun ball double Renfroe got, the back side of that lineup is struggling. Massey had a tough strikeout with the bases juiced, as did Salvy. Fermin and Isbel didn’t do much at all at the plate. Garcia picked up a hit, and his swing is looking good, I will say.
The longevity of our starters has been a surprise. Ragans, Lugo, and Wacha all did not make it deep into the first three games. They didn’t have bad outings by any means, they just couldn’t keep that pitch count low.
Sam Long got rocked all series.
Harvey, Erceg, and Esteves looked great, and they looked like the main guys we can lean on to close out a game.
To make matters worse, India took a 98 mph missile to the side of the head. Reports have come out stating that the injury looks to be non-concussive, which is amazing and surprising to see, considering the sound of that ball hitting his helmet.
Again, this is only three games out of the 162 they play this season. Don’t lose hope because the Royals are facing the Brewers and their desperate pitching staff tomorrow. Time to get the bats rolling and their swagger
