Oli Shepherd injury update
Towards the end of yesterday’s match away against Brecon there was an extremely nasty head injury for Pontypridd fullback Oli Shepherd. Having only entered the field of play a couple of minutes earlier, Oli hit a great line and sustained the serious looking injury when taking the ball into contact.
The match was then halted for a lengthy period of time whilst Oli received specialist treatment from the Club’s medical experts. The young fullback was stretchered off the pitch, but we do have some good news to report which is that Oli is doing ok. He was up walking around after the match, and our Head of Medical Services Saffron Hall sent him to hospital for a check up last night due to the seriousness nature of the impact. We are pleased to report that the scans showed no brain damage or bleeding, just a nasty concussion. Oli is obviously now unavailable due to the concussion protocols, but the most important news is that he is ok.
Ponty Team Manager Stuart Rix said: “We were all very concerned with the seriousness of Oli’s injury, it’s never nice to see any player take such a heavy contact. As a club we are very lucky to have Saff and Seren with us. They were incredibly professional with looking after Oli. I’m sure all our fans will join us in wishing him a speedy recovery.”
As a Club we would like to echo Stuart’s sentiments – we’d firstly like to thank Saffron and Seren for their expert medical care whilst secondly wishing Oli a speedy recovery, we hope to see him back out on the pitch soon.
