“Austin Reaves love Memphis” — Lakers fans react to vital road win over Grizzlies
The Lakers picked up an important road win against the Grizzlies on Saturday on the back of their big three of LeBron James, Luka Dončić and, most notably, Austin Reaves.
On the final stop of a road trip that has provided plenty of dramatics, the Lakers went into Memphis on Saturday and came away with a big road win.
With the two teams sharing the same record and under 10 games remaining on the season for the purple and gold, Saturday’s win was vital for the playoff standings. It wasn’t an easy victory, but it was certainly an entertaining one.
Both offenses on the night were clicking on all cylinders, leading to an exciting — and nerve-wracking — back-and-forth affair. The Lakers three-headed monster of LeBron James, Luka Dončić and Austin Reaves had their best combined game of the season to help secure the win.
Through it all, our readers chatted together in our live game thread. Here’s their best reactions throughout the game.
First quarter: “Head band Bron...”
Lakers fans curious to how the team would respond to Thursday’s crushing loss needed little time to get their answer. Led by LeBron, the purple and gold came out aggressive and attacking offensively.
While Memphis, too, was being assertive offensively, the Lakers took control of the game early.
Second quarter: “Vincent is EN FUEGO”
What a second quarter for Gabe Vincent.
The Lakers continued to find success offensively, led by an unlikely source in Gabe Vincent, who caught fire from 3-point range. Memphis eventually made a run to get close, but the Lakers created space once more to end the half.
Third quarter: “So its the third”
No matter how the Lakers are playing in a game, you can just seemingly mark down the third quarter as a struggle. Even while the Lakers still remained ahead for basically the whole period, it didn’t feel all that comfortable!
Fourth quarter: “AR is going to try to will this team to a win”
With another tight game to close this road trip, the Lakers needed some clutch performances down the stretch. At first, it didn’t look like those would come as Memphis pushed ahead.
Eventually, though, Reaves stepped up, making a number of huge shots. The Lakers got enough stops defensively down the stretch to secure the huge win.
