Man Utd must not sell 'world-class' £47m star, Amorim's project could go backwards
Manchester United have had a tough Premier League campaign. They have registered only 37 points from 29 games.
The club have struggled to score regular goals in the final third. Manager Ruben Amorim may want an upgrade in the number nine role.
The Red Devils primarily rely on talismanic captain Bruno Fernandes for creativity, but there is now surprise speculation over his future.
Daily Star claim that Real Madrid are weighing up a huge £90 million bid for the Portugal international.
Fernandes is considered a potential replacement for Luka Modric, who could retire at the end of the 2025/26 campaign.
£90m would represent a club-record sale for the Red Devils, eclipsing the £80m that Real Madrid paid for Cristiano Ronaldo back in 2009.
Amorim does not want to lose his ‘inspirational’ skipper, but United’s need to raise funds could see them consider a big offer for Fernandes.
Selling Fernandes could take United backwards in Amorim’s project
United have been on a downward path in the Premier League despite the change of manager.
Amorim has brought some positivity at Old Trafford after manager Erik ten Hag’s exit and he will be offered time to turn things around.
However, the project could be jeopardised if INEOS and Sir Jim Ratcliffe contemplate parting ways with Fernandes amid Madrid’s interest.
Fernandes has been a class apart from his teammates in recent months. He has singlehandedly turned around games with his goal contributions.
The Portuguese star has accumulated 16 goals and 16 assists this season. His assist tally could be higher if United have a world-class striker upfront.
In league terms, Fernandes has created 12 big chances. Amad Diallo is the second highest for the Red Devils, with just five to his name.
The United captain has stepped up his performances to another level since moving to central midfield where he built his reputation at Sporting CP.
Fernandes, who was signed for an initial £47 million in 2020, has another two years left on his contract. The club have the option to extend for 12 months.
In our view, the club must not contemplate selling him for any price on the table. Losing Fernandes could have a detrimental effect on Amorim’s project.
United have to build their squad around Fernandes, who is probably the only player with ‘world-class‘ talent, as described by the club’s official website.
