Suspicious device removed from Chelsea area by bomb squad: NYPD
CHELSEA, Manhattan (PIX11) – A suspicious device was removed from an area in Chelsea Saturday afternoon, according to the NYPD.
A 911 call was received at around 3:30 p.m., police said.
According to sources, the areas near 23rd Street and 8th Avenue were closed briefly.
“Due to police activity, expect traffic delays, road closures, mass transit disruptions, and a heavy presence of emergency personnel in the area of West 23rd Street and 8th Avenue in Manhattan. Use alternate routes to avoid the area and allow for additional travel time.”

Police tape, an FDNY firefighter, and two police vehicles were seen in front of various businesses, according to one Citizen video.
The NYPD bomb squad was called in to remove the device. It was deemed not hazardous, authorities said.
