Mother and her 2 children dead after car fatally strikes them in Brooklyn: NYPD
GRAVESEND, Brooklyn (PIX11) -- A mother and her three children were struck by a vehicle in Brooklyn on Saturday afternoon, according to officials.
The mother and two of her children are dead, while another child is currently fighting for their life, according to officials.
“To see a mother and her two children in a vehicle crash, this is extremely concerning and painful,” Mayor Eric Adams said. “The mother was going for a simple stroll on a sunny day and was struck and killed. As we pray for the families and the communities, the city mourns their loss.”
The incident occurred near Quentin Road, just after 1 p.m. Officials said that multiple individuals were transported to local hospitals.
Officials tell PIX11 News that a silver Toyota Camry with TLC plates was traveling westbound on Quentin Road and attempting to turn right onto Ocean Parkway. Another driver operating a blue Audi was traveling northbound on Ocean Parkway and struck the Toyota in the rear bumper, authorities said.
The impact caused the Toyota to be pushed aside while the Audi continued forward, hitting four pedestrians in the crosswalk: a mother and her three children, before overturning, said Jessica Tisch, Police Commissioner of the City of New York.
“I am going to call it as it is, " Tisch said. “This was a horrific tragedy caused by someone who should not have been on the road.”
The 32-year-old driver of the Audi had a suspended license. The driver was taken to a local hospital and is in stable condition. A breathalyzer is being administered to determine if the driver may have been impaired.
The 62-year-old driver of the silver Toyota and his passengers were also taken to local hospitals in stable condition, according to authorities.
Authorities believe speed may have been a factor in this tragedy, but a full investigation is ongoing.
