Inter Milan vice-president admits he loves the look of one Tottenham star
As speculation continues to intensify over the future of Cristian Romero, Inter vice-president Javier Zanetti has now added fuel to the fire with his latest comments about the Tottenham man.
The centre-back has just over two years left on his contract, and Tottenham have reportedly told Romero that he will be sold if he does not sign a new contract.
The Spurs vice-captain potentially faces a big decision over the coming months, with the Lilywhites having to win the Europa League in order to book a place in next year’s Champions League.
It has been reported over recent days that while Tottenham previously asked for £60m for Romero, they are prepared to lower their valuation this summer.
Javier Zanetti asked about Inter Milan’s interest in Cristian Romero
Various outlets have claimed that AC Milan and Atletico Madrid have both expressed an interest in signing Romero when the transfer market reopens.
Javier Zanetti’s latest comments suggest that Inter Milan cannot be ruled out of the race for the Tottenham 26-year-old, with the Argentine legend waxing lyrical about his compatriot.
When asked if the Serie A club could make a move for Romero, the Inter vice-president told TyC Sports: “It’s not easy because we are talking about very expensive players. The club’s sustainability is a challenge for everyone and a fundamental aspect.
“Romero is a complete defender. I was saying before the interview that Argentina can rely on a defender who knows how to play, who marks well, is focused and is a leader. I really like him a lot. He’s one of those old-school, complete defenders. He has proved to be a key player for Argentina.”
Has Cristian Romero reached the end of his patience at Tottenham?
Over recent weeks, we have seen suggestions that Romero is ‘deeply upset’ with how the Spurs medical team have handled his rehabilitation.
Earlier this season, Romero also publicly criticised the lack of ambition shown by the Tottenham hierarchy.
These developments combined with the fact that the centre-back is yet to put pen to paper on a new contract, suggest that he could well be on his way out this summer.
