This Motivates Young Red Sox Infielder In Consequential 2025 Season
WORCESTER, Mass. — Vaughn Grissom never got his true shot as the everyday second baseman for the Boston Red Sox in 2024.
Illness and injuries negated most of his time at the MLB level in his first year with the Red Sox. He sparked a bit when he hit .333 in September, albeit in 27 plate appearances. Kristian Campbell took the Opening Day spot on this year’s roster, leaving Grissom to start the season with Triple-A Worcester.
The 24-year-old still has plenty of baseball growth ahead and immediately gets the chance to prove his eventual worth to the Red Sox.
“Really excited,” Grissom told NESN.com. “It’s definitely a great year. We’ve got a great team. I feel like it’s a good environment for us to all push each other. It’s going to be fun.”
Starting this season healthy without spring training hiccups is already a success for Grissom. That peace of mind should greatly help the Red Sox infielder.
“Just trying to start off hot,” Grissom said. “Obviously last year I was dealing with the injury and the flu. I’m just glad I get to start this season at my weight. Strong. Confident. I don’t really have any goals. Just do what I do.”
