Why ‘Big Three’ Prospects Thrilled For Red Sox’s Kristian Campbell
WORCESTER, Mass. — Kristian Campbell got the final callup of the top tier of Red Sox prospects to earn the call to Triple-A Worcester a week after the promotions of Marcelo Mayer, Roman Anthony and Kyle Teel.
Now, he’s the first of the group at the MLB level after he made the Opening Day roster for the Red Sox.
Mayer and Anthony won’t be far behind, but both top Red Sox prospects certainly embraced the celebration for their teammates in Campbell’s jump to the big leagues.
“It’s super exciting,” Mayer told reporters at Polar Park. “Campbell’s a great buddy of mine. Super excited for him, along with all my other buddies on that Opening Day roster. Obviously, when you play with guys in the minor leagues and they get their opportunity to live their dream out, it’s super special to watch.”
“It was awesome,” Anthony told reporters at Polar Park. “Me and Marcelo both kind of got chills. We weren’t surprised. He’s a great worker. He shows up every day prepared. He showed up every day in spring. He took care of what he needed to take care of. I’m excited.”
Campbell swatted his first MLB hit on Opening Day and tallied two more hits in Friday’s loss to the Rangers. The Red Sox hope they have their second baseman for the long-term with pending help a few weeks or months away in Anthony and Mayer.
