Three ways to help keep your sleep on track as the clocks go forward
STICKING to a regular sleep routine can reduce your risk of stroke, cardiac arrest and heart failure.
Even if you get a solid eight hours a night, studies show that those who don’t go to bed and get up at roughly the same times are 26 per cent more at risk.
So today, as the clocks change, I look at ways to keep sleep on track.
CAPSULES
THE capsules from Revive Active contain two of my favourite sleep aids – Montmorency cherry and magnesium bisglycinate.
The tart cherry is thought to increase melatonin levels in the body, promoting better quality sleep.
Magnesium is great for sleep, and these capsules – which also contain calming chamomile and lavender – use the type that is softest on your stomach.
I popped two before bed and they definitely boosted my quality of sleep without that groggy feeling in the morning.
Daily use is said to contribute to better concentration, too.
£24.95 per box – 60 capsules. £0.83 a day reviveactive.com.
DIFFUSER
WELLBEING brand Neom has released a mini version of its best-selling diffuser.
The Neom Wellbeing Pod Mini is dinky but packs a punch, throwing out a scent in minutes.
Simply put your favourite oil scent inside for whatever mood you’re trying to achieve and it is converted into micro-fine vapour.
I loved that this has no water tank, like other diffusers do, and once charged, it lasted a decent amount of time.
I had it in the living room before bedtime and used Neom’s Perfect Night’s Sleep essential oil blend with lavender, sweet basil and jasmine for relaxation. Blissful.
Currently on offer for £46.75 at boots.com.
CHOCOLATE POWDER
YOUTH & Earth’s Sleep Dust hot chocolate is infused with Ecuadorian cacao that is “ceremonial grade” – high-grade and traditionally produced.
The drink also has traditional botanicals and modern nutrients to aid peaceful, restorative sleep.
Nutrients include Reishi extract and L-theanine for relaxation; valerian root extract and 5-HTP to enhance sleep quality; honokiol, which is from the bark of magnolia trees, to ease anxiety; and magnesium, ashwagandha and B vitamins for your nervous system.
This tasted great. I had it an hour before bed and had a deep, solid sleep.
I love the fact it is just 42 calories per 12g sachet, too.
