I-70 east in Topeka to shut down for road work next week
TOPEKA (KSNT) - Road crews will soon close part of a major highway in the Topeka area at the start of April for bridge construction work.
The Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) announced on KanDrive.gov that workers will close I-70 eastbound in Topeka from U.S. 75 to U.S. 40 for bridge construction work to take place. Road crews will start the project at 11 p.m. on Friday, April 4 and end it around 10 p.m. on Sunday, April 6.
Eastbound drivers are encouraged to follow a detour route that will take them off the highway at the Southwest Gage Boulevard exit and down to Southwest 10th Avenue. Drivers will then head east on Southwest 10th Avenue until they get back onto eastbound I-70.
KDOT's road work project from April 4-6 is taking place in the same area as the ongoing $239 million Polk-Quincy Viaduct project. Work on this project is expected to last into 2027 with I-70 eventually being closed to both eastbound and westbound traffic for several months. You can learn more about the project by clicking here.
