You can buy the paint for even less if you are close to a Wickes store – the retailer is selling tins with a 20% discount taking the price down from £35 to £28.

However, there are other options, so it’s worth having a good look around and comparing prices.
And while a five litre tub offers good value, you may not need this much paint unless you would like to paint multiple doors in your home.

You can buy a 750ml tin – just enough for one door for £14.99, rather than spending double the amount for paint you don’t need.

Estate agents agree that the front door plays a crucial role in kerb appeal.
Matt Lannings from agency The Property Expert, said: “Naturally for a property, the front door is one of the first things potential new owners will see up close.
“There are various studies which indicate the first 20 to 30 seconds of a viewing will confirm if a potential buyer is interested or not.”
“In my experience, I’ve also learnt that many potential buyers will make drive by visits without initially consulting the agent or owner, so it’s imperative to make sure you haven’t fallen at the first hurdle by having a scruffy facade.”
Heather Carter-Drake, head of film lets at estate agency Hamptons agreed,

“I once secured a let for a classic black front door in Knightsbridge that earned its owner £500 for just a day’s filming.”
The colour and look you choose can also contribute.
Homes with red front doors sell for an average of £413,279—36% more than the national average of £290,003, according to a study by Safestyle.
Some homeowners opt for bold colours but neutral tones such as white and grey,tend to appeal to a wider range of buyers.
Matt said: “As a general rule, it’s important the colour of the front door isn’t too bold, as you don’t want to put a selection of buyers off by being too individual.”
Lighter shades can make a home look clean and modern, while darker hues, like navy or forest green, give off a sophisticated, high-end feel.
