Prep Baseball Roundup: Big bats power San Rafael rally over Redwood
San Rafael scored twice in the top of the seventh to cap a late 5-4 comeback over host Redwood on Friday. Home runs by senior Dexter Jackson and junior Sebastian Chick powered the Bulldogs’ rally.
Jackson was 3-for-4 with two RBIs and Chick also drove in a pair of runs. Junior Colby Jackson was 3-for-3 with a double for the Bulldogs (7-6, 5-3 MCAL), who trailed 4-2 after giving up three runs in the bottom of the fourth.
- Redwood ace Matt Knauer had a solid day, despite giving up three runs, as he struck out 10 batters and walked one through 6 1/3 innings. Giants senior Mikes Harrison and junior Jack Moseley both had two hits, each with a double. Junior Theo Trono doubled and drove in a run, while senior Lucas Ghio scored and had an RBI for the Giants (4-5-1, 4-4).
- Sophomore Kingston Weinberg had a standout day on the mound as Archie Williams shut out Branson, 3-0, on Friday. Weinberg struck out eight batters, despite walking five, and held the Bulls to two hits through 6 1/3 innings. Senior Henry Hanavan homered and drove in two runs for the Peregrine Falcons (5-6, 4-4) and sophomore Solly Ojalvo doubled. Leo Diaz and Mo Jacoby each had a hit for the Bulls (5-6, 1-6).
- Senior Eli Solem struck out 10 batters in a complete-game two-hitter as Tam shut out Terra Linda, 7-0, on Friday. Senior Henry Stoll doubled twice and drove in three runs for the Red-tailed Hawks (9-3, 5-1). Senior Tito Fierstein had a pair of hits, including a double, and scored twice against the Trojans (3-8, 0-6).
- San Marin got rolling early in Friday’s 4-0 home victory over Marin Catholic. Freshman Wade Untermann and junior Luke Martin each had a pair of base hits for the Wildcats (7-5, 4-4). The Mustangs (8-2, 8-1) swept the home-and-home series with Marin Catholic this week with a pair of shutouts.
- Sophomore Gio Castaing had a solid day at the plate for the Hornets as Novato (5-6, 2-4 MCAL) earned a 7-3 home win over Alhambra in Friday’s non-league contest. Castaing had a two hits, including a double, scored twice and drove in two runs. Junior Griffin Vorhaus doubled and junior Julian Oliver was 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs and a run.
- Credo put up eight runs in the top of the first and went on to beat host Tomales, 22-3, on Friday.
- San Domenico saw its lead slip away in Friday’s 6-5 loss to host Urban on Friday. The Panthers led 5-0 in the top of the fifth before the Blues’ rally. Freshman Julian Mackler was 2-for-3 with a pair of runs, while Matilda Hull, Oliver Bennett and Ian Baker each had an RBI for the Panthers (4-6, 1-1 BCL West).
