Mary Steenburgen to become woman on the inside of A Man On The Inside
A Man On The Inside is about to become even more of a family comedy. While Ted Danson’s character’s wife died on the show, the actor’s real-life spouse, Mary Steenburgen, will officially join him for season two. Per a press release, Steenburgen will play Mona Margadoff, a “former musician who factors heavily in the case Charles is trying to solve.”
Season one saw Charles (Danson), a grieving widower, find a new lease on life after answering an ad in the paper calling for a mole to assist with a case at a retirement home. While the retirement home antics were definitely delightful (Charles’ friendship with a fellow retiree played by Stephen McKinley Henderson was a particular highlight), it’s now time for the former engineering professor—a regular Hercule Poirot—to seek out greener pastures. The show will take on an anthology format, Deadline reports, with season two taking Charles (and Mona) to a liberal arts college, according to insiders.
This is hardly the first time Danson and Steenburgen have appeared onscreen together. In fact, Steenburgen has appeared in almost all of Danson’s shows from the past two decades, including The Good Place, Becker, Mr. Mayor, and Bored To Death. The pair previously played a couple on Curb Your Enthusiasm, and may do so again here. Netflix didn’t provide any further character details for Mona, but sources for the trade suggest that there “may be sparks” between her and Charles.
A Man On The Inside was created by Mike Schur (The Good Place) and also stars Lilah Richcreek Estrada as the private investigator working with Charles, as well as Mary Elizabeth Ellis and Eugene Cordero as his daughter and son-in-law, respectively. Season one also featured actors like Stephanie Beatriz, Sally Struthers, and John Getz, but it’s not clear if they’ll return for season two. As of this writing, Netflix hasn’t set a premiere date for Charles’ next outing.
