Watervliet man charged with attempted murder
TROY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Troy Police announced the arrest of a Watervliet man after an assault investigation. 21-year-old Jahnye Griffin is facing several felony charges.
On March 24, officers responding to a report of an assault at 750 Second Avenue located a man with serious injuries. The victim was taken to a nearby hospital where he continues to recover, according to police.
Detectives determined that the suspect, who fled the scene before police arrived, had previously agreed to meet the victim at the victim's apartment. When they met, the suspect allegedly beat and choked the man before running off with the victim's cell phone.
During the ensuing investigation, Troy PD identified Griffin as a suspect and took him into custody Thursday night in Watervliet. He now faces the following charges:
- Second-degree attempted murder
- First-degree assault
- First-degree robbery
Griffin was held in the Rensselaer County Jail after being arraigned at Troy City Court.
