Johnny Cardoso makes huge admission about Tottenham’s purchase clause
Johnny Cardoso has broken his silence about Tottenham Hotspur’s option to buy him this summer as speculation continues to run rife over his future at Real Betis.
Tottenham’s decision to acquire a £21m option to buy Johnny Cardoso seems like a masterstroke, with the midfielder’s reputation continuing to blossom at Real Betis this season.
Over recent weeks, reports have indicated that Spurs are planning on activating the option to buy Cardoso this summer, with the North London club’s recruitment chiefs allegedly convinced that the midfielder will prove an astute signing.
Yves Bissouma could be the one to make way for Cardoso as the Mali international appears to be edging closer to an exit from Tottenham.
Johnny Cardoso breaks silence on Tottenham option
The USA international has been in sublime form over recent months, which only makes a switch to the Lilywhites more likely as we edge closer to the summer window.
Reports from Spain over the last few weeks have claimed that Real Betis expect Tottenham to activate the Cardoso option when the transfer window reopens.
The 23-year-old has now confessed that Spurs’ decision to acquire a clause to buy him last summer served as a major confidence boost but insisted that his focus remains purely on doing well for Betis at the moment.
When asked what it means for a club like Tottenham to show such keen interest in him, Cardoso told Diario de Sevilla (as relayed by Sport Witness): “I can’t lie, and it’s true that it’s something that gives me confidence, that makes me feel valued because I’m doing a good job.
“But I always try to improve and do my best for the benefit of the group and grow as a person on and off the field. However, right now my focus is only on Betis. This season we have important things to think about.”
The Cardoso option is a no-brainer for Spurs
There is no doubt that a number six will be at the top of Ange Postecoglou’s priority list for the summer (if the Australian stays beyond the end of the season).
Johnny Cardoso fits the bill perfectly and the fact that Tottenham can sign him for a cut-price fee makes the deal a no-brainer.
However, there is a very real chance of a managerial change at Spurs this summer and the decision might thus come down to whoever replaces Postecoglou.
