Tottenham consider Cristian Romero U-turn after Atletico Madrid approach
Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly on the verge of making a U-turn on Cristian Romero, with a fresh update revealing the kind of offer Atletico Madrid will have to make to sign the centre-back this summer.
It has been widely reported that Romero is hesitant to commit to a new contract at Spurs as he is keen on playing Champions League football next season.
A couple of weeks ago, it was revealed that Tottenham were set to hand Romero an ultimatum by making it clear to him that he would be sold this summer if he did not commit to a new deal.
This comes amidst speculation that Atletico Madrid have contacted Romero regarding a summer switch to the Metropolitano Stadium.
Tottenham not ruling out Cristian Romero sale
GiveMeSport have now also backed up Atletico’s advances towards the Tottenham Hotspur centre-back, explaining that the La Liga club’s interest in the player is being driven by head coach Diego Simeone.
The report says that while Spurs were previously keen on hanging onto their vice-captain and tying him down to a new contract, they are now ‘tempted to make a significant U-turn’.
It is alleged that the Lilywhites are refusing to rule out the possibility of cashing in on their vice-captain, who has just two years left on his deal.
The decision-makers at Tottenham acknowledge that this summer might be their final opportunity to get a decent fee for the former Juventus man.
How much will Spurs demand for Romero?
GiveMeSport explain that whenever there have been approaches for Romero in the past, Tottenham have priced him out of the market.
With Ange Postecoglou seeing him as a key part of his project, it was previously going to take a huge offer to turn their head.
However, the outlet asserts that Tottenham’s stance has since changed, with the club willing to assess offers of around £45m for centre-back this summer.
