Shock exit on Death in Paradise as Selwyn Patterson departs after 14 years on-screen
DEATH In Paradise viewers were left in shock as The Commissioner rejected the job in a shock twist.
Don Warrington, 72, has played the long-running character since 2011 but it seems he will depart the series.
At the end of tonight’s Death In Paradise, The Commissioner told Marvin (played by Don Don Gilet) that he would not be accepting the job going forward.
He announced that he was leaving the island as he gave Marvin the number of his boss Solomon Clarke, along with the revelation that he is his brother.
The head told Marvin that he should go for the job, just as his future on the island was left hanging in the balance during tonight’s finale.
Fans of the beloved BBC drama tuned in tonight as the latest series drew to a close.
It had marked the first run for Don, 58, as he took over the top job from Ralf Little, 45.
Commissioner Selwyn Patterson – played by Don Warrington – previously lost his job at the start of the series.
However, in good news for fans, the commissioner was rightly reinstated to his position on Death In Paradise.
But the series was left on a cliffhanger as Melvin’s very future was left hanging in the balance at the end of the episode.
The episode started as inhabitants all over the island read headlines in the local press questioning if the commissioner is still up to the job.
Meanwhile, he stood by his mother’s grave saying his goodbyes as he prepared to make the journey back to London.
Just as he said his farewell to his police colleagues, a person named Sadie Jones rushed into the police station to report a missing person.
Marvin was then called by his colleagues and was ordered to rush back to duty, just as he was sitting at the airport.
The victim was named Rosa Martinez and she was dramatically found dead in Marvin’s shack.
Although Marvin handed over the keys and headed to the airport, he was the last person seen at the property before the body was discovered.
This meant that the inspector himself was named as a suspect in the investigation.
After his own taxi driver corroborated his story, Marvin stated that he missed his flight and was forced to stay on the island to investigate.
The case took as fascinating turn as no person called Rosa Martinez travelled to or from the island within the year, and the dead victim was accused of stalking her colleague called Estelle.
Her time of death was later confirmed when the post-mortem came in, and it was confirmed that she was killed via strangulation.
The plot thickened as it became clear that Rosa was hiding her true identity and she was having an affair with her colleague, Callum.
Not only that, it was discovered that she was an investigative journalist looking into a story on the island.
Estelle was on the night duty with her work and she manipulated Seb into lettering her escape when they had questions.
She was later brought in for questioning when a fibre glass weapon was found on the boat.
Sadie Jones later became a suspect after she admitted to hitting Rosa after she found her hiding on the vessel when she discovered her racketeering business.
After a chance meeting with the commissioner, all the pieces fit together as Marvin discovered it was Callum who committed the murder after they went through his phone.
After The Commissioner delivered his bombshell news, will Marvin stay on the island or will he go choose to go back to London after all?
