Four cash-saving ideas to make your mum a beautiful homemade Mother’s Day card
A HOMEMADE card costs less but means more – so pack one with personality to make Mother’s day.
Take a little time to push the envelope with these easy ideas.
ALL FINGERS AND THUMBS: Using kids’ paint-covered fingers, thumbs and hands can create a magical picture.
Draw a tree outline on the front of the card and top it with ‘fingerprint’ blossom in shades of pink and purple.
Create a butterfly design using two painted handprints joined just below the thumbs and decorate with glitter.
Write a slogan on the front and use a little one’s handprint to replace the ‘o’ in love or ‘u’ in mummy.
CUT ABOVE: Use scissors to cut out flower or heart shapes from wrapping paper or coloured card. You can even use plain paper and colour it in.
Glue it on to plain card to look like heart-shaped balloons or a bouquet of flowers, drawing in strings or stems.
Add a thoughtful message inside, spelling out what makes mum special.
CREATIVE COLOURING: If you have a printer at home, you can use a free online template and colour it in using bright pencils and pens.
You can download templates from sites such as bakerross.co.uk and the ideas section at hobbycraft.co.uk.
If that’s not possible, find a cute picture in a colouring book at home. Go all out to fill it in beautifully and then cut it out and stick in on a card.
The Works has a pack of 30 blank white cards and envelopes for £3.50 and these can be used for homemade cards all year round.
POETIC LICENCE: The best words to put on a card are ones from the heart.
But someone else’s sentiments can also hit the spot.
If you’re lost for words, try searching online for poems or quotes about mothers and then use the verses that describe how you feel in your own homemade card.
