How does U.S. Gold Bureau stack up against other gold investment companies? In our research, we found that customers love the personalization of the company’s services, but they cite some potential downfalls—namely, education overload and the occasional shipping mixup.

That should help assuage any fears you might have about gold businesses popping up overnight, thanks to the recent surge in prices.

Precious metals

U.S. Gold Bureau offers the standard precious metals: gold, silver, platinum, and palladium. Products include Gold American Eagles and Gold American Buffaloes—standardized to purity levels that you can legally hold in an IRA—in both bars and investment-grade coins. 

Additionally, U.S. Gold Bureau offers tubes, safes, and storage boxes that can help you retain your newfound wealth if you want to buy the precious metals privately and hold them, say, in an at-home safe. 

Unfortunately, a pull-away decoy photo frame so you can store your gold like a Bond villain is not available—though we wouldn’t have minded if it were.

Gold IRA

You can hold gold in self-directed IRAs and 401(k)s, which gives you the same tax protections you’d expect from these accounts. The only difference is that you work with U.S. Gold Bureau’s retirement services division to figure this out. 

This is where U.S. Gold Bureau’s education side comes out—you can talk to retirement specialists with no-obligation conversations that are, of course, designed to help nudge you in the direction of a gold IRA. However, online customer reviews found that U.S. Gold Bureau’s approach was generally low-pressure and relaxed.

Does U.S. Gold Bureau offer any unique benefits?

U.S. Gold Bureau does offer “sell to us” buyback programs—and the prices aren’t too shabby. For example, one current payout for a 1-ounce 2025 Gold American Buffalo Coin is $2,901, not far off from the current spot price of ~$2,925.

Some customers lodged one or two U.S. Gold Bureau complaints regarding the prices they could fetch for these buybacks. After all, acquiring a 2025 Gold American Buffalo Coin means you didn’t buy it back in 2019 when prices were much lower. U.S. Gold Bureau charges for the service, but for that charge, you get 100% all-risk insurance through the Lloyd’s of London insurance marketplace. If you’re the kind of customer who likes to move and doesn’t like keeping a safe at home, remote storage through the Texas Bullion Depository requires paying a premium that may be worth it, depending on how much gold you have to store.

How much does it cost to work with U.S. Gold Bureau?

After a helpful phone call with U.S. Gold Bureau in which it was very transparent about its prices, it wasn’t hard to find out what you can expect:

• $50 account setup fee when getting started at the depository
• $25 anytime withdrawal fees when you remove your precious metals
• If storing less than $2.5 million (with a minimum of $20,000): Storage fees of half a percent of the market value of your stored metals annually, billed out quarterly
• If storing more than $2.5 million: That drops down to 0.45%, staggering downward on its way up to $10 million in value.

The retirement accounts depend on the custodian with whom the U.S. Gold Bureau will match you. However, the U.S. Gold Bureau is willing to work with its clients to find opportunities for rollovers and even more local custodians that may make the entire process of opening a Gold IRA more convenient.

These storage prices put the U.S. Gold Bureau on the higher end of allocated storage, where you might typically expect, say, 0.25% to 0.5% of the value of the gold stored annually. As with any depository, you’ll get the most “bang for your buck” the more precious metals you have to store.

Check out “U.S. Gold Bureau BBB” online and you’ll find the high grade we mentioned earlier. However, scoring 4.4 out of 5 on Google Reviews and 3.5 out of 5 on Trustpilot, U.S. Gold Bureau’s customer reviews are mixed. 

Some people glow about its customer service and the high level of personalization involved, while others complain about specific issues with how easy it was to resell precious metals back to the Bureau or the quality of items they ordered.

U.S. Gold Bureau does have high-quality customer service—particularly if it thinks you’re a potential customer with a lot of gold to store. (Once I revealed I was researching its services and not actually interested in storing gold soon, the conversation ended pretty quickly.) 

But I won’t hold that against the company: if it provides outstanding service to its paying customers, that’s what ultimately counts. 

How does U.S. Gold Bureau compare to alternatives? 

Looking at the U.S. Gold Bureau review content online, many customers loved the customer service. But how does that compare to what’s out there? If you want gold, U.S. Gold Bureau is far from the only game in town. 

American Hartford Gold (AHG), Priority Gold, and Preserve Gold are all highly regarded names in the same field. Each of the three has established a good reputation for customer service, though some have been in the business longer than others.

AHG

AHG has a personable team. Its customer support really stood out in customer reviews thanks to an elite rating on TrustPilot. In fact, many of the reviews specifically called out support staff by name, which lent some credibility to these reviews. 

With 1.4K reviews already on the platform—with less than 3% rating them less than 4 stars—you could argue it’s the “gold standard” for good customer experiences with Gold and Silver Trading companies listed on the TrustPilot platform.

Priority Gold

What stands out about Priority Gold’s high ratings on TrustPilot (4.2 out of 5—not as “elite” as AHG but still high-quality) isn’t just the helpful customer service; customers also enjoy how smooth and secure the transactions tend to be. 

That’s a big point of confidence with precious metals customers, who sometimes worry that a big investment in gold or silver bullion feels like it’s taking a big risk. Working with companies like Priority Gold helps show that it doesn’t have to be a risk at all.

Preserve Gold 

Preserve Gold is the youngest of the three, still working its way up to 100 total reviews on Trustpilot. So far, the reviews have been excellent—on par with AHG. It gets especially good marks for helping customers handle IRA rollovers, which is something that people enjoy about the U.S. Gold Bureau as well.
