National coffee chain to open drive-thru in parking lot of northeast Columbus Meijer
COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) – A long-awaited drive-thru coffee shop will soon open in northeast Columbus.
Since May 2024, a Biggby Coffee has sat empty at 5026 North Hamilton Road in the parking lot of a Meijer. After a long wait, the owner of the franchise location, Yusra Bono, said it will begin welcoming customers in April. Bono said delays related to permits and other paperwork caused the coffee shop's opening to get pushed back multiple times.
“There was a lot of waiting,” Bono said. “But now we’re at the finish line. There’s been a lot of people driving by and on Facebook saying ‘What’s going on?’ but I’m glad people are still interested in it.”
Founded in 1995, Michigan-based Biggby Coffee is a chain with nearly 400 locations in the United States. The franchise-based brand serves a variety of iced, hot and frozen coffees, along with tea lattes, smoothies and energy drinks.
The brand also serves food including bagel sandwiches, donut holes and muffins. Bono – who will be running the business with her mother, brother and sister – said pork products on the regular menu will not be offered due to her family’s religion.
“We are not going to have anything pork, but we're still going to have alternatives like turkey sausage, turkey bacon and stuff like that,” Bono said.
The Columbus coffee shop will be drive-thru only but will offer outdoor seating. Once open, the drive-thru’s house will be Mondays through Saturdays from 6:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. It will open one hour later, at 7:30 a.m., on Sundays.
