Man United join Tottenham in the race for Yusuf Akcicek this summer
Tottenham Hotspur have been very impressed with Yusuf Akcicek’s progress this season, but the North London club have just learned that Manchester United have joined the race.
While Ange Postecoglou is certainly not short of options at centre-back, especially after the arrival of Kevin Danso in January, the club’s senior centre-halves, Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero, have both had more than their fair share of injury issues.
Additionally, Ben Davies’ future at Tottenham is uncertain as the Welshman’s current deal runs out in the summer.
That is perhaps why the Lilywhites are thought to be in the market for reinforcements at the back, with reports over recent weeks claiming that Spurs are big fans of Fenerbahce’s Yusuf Akcicek.
Tottenham face competition from Man United for Yusuf Akcicek
A new report in Fanatik has now confirmed that Tottenham Hotspur have indeed scouted the 19-year-old, who has impressed since breaking into the Fenerbahce side.
However, the outlet reveals that Man United have now also joined in the race for Akcicek, with Ruben Amorim thought to see the youngster as a good fit for his system, which uses three at the back.
The teenager has now been added to United’s shortlist for the summer but is explained that the Red Devils and Spurs have to contend with ‘stiff competition’ from across Europe for the player.
The outlet asserts that Bayern Munich, Napoli, Atletico Madrid and RB Leipzig in registered their interest in the Turkey international over recent weeks.
Big update on Akcicek’s contract at Fenerbahce
Akcicek’s current deal at the Sukru Saracoglu Stadium runs until 2028, but Fenerbahce have already opened talks with the defender on a new contract.
In fact, Fanatik claim that the negotiations between the parties are already at an advanced stage on a contract that runs until 2028.
The publication adds that while Jose Mourinho’s planning on keeping hold of their academy graduate, they will be open to a sale if a big enough offer comes their way.
