Jimmy Fallon Mocks Trump’s Call to Defund PBS: ‘The White House Has a Group Chat About Invading Sesame Street’ | Video
Jimmy Fallon is surprised that Donald Trump seems to hate NPR and PBS so much. This comes after the president’s recent calls to defund both of the federally funded organizations.
“It’s not good. Right now, the White House has a group chat about invading ‘Sesame Street,'” Fallon said on Thursday night, nodding to the recent Signal group chat scandal where a group of senior-level Trump advisors added The Atlantic’s editor-in-chief to a private chat about bombing Yemen.
“When NPR heard, they went nuts,” Fallon continued before dropping his voice down to a near whisper. “They said, ‘This is an outrage. We are furious right now.'”
On Wednesday, NPR CEO Katherine Maher and PBS CEO Paula Kerger appeared before a House subcommittee on government efficiency. Both defended their respective organizations against being accused of political bias by Republican politicians. Even President Donald Trump weighed in on the hearings and the fates of the organizations.
“NPR and PBS, two horrible and completely biased platforms (Networks!), should be DEFUNDED by Congress, IMMEDIATELY,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “Republicans, don’t miss this opportunity to rid our Country of this giant SCAM, both being arms of the Radical Left Democrat Party. JUST SAY NO AND, MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!!!”
“Trump’s playing a dangerous game. If PBS stops airing those old doo-wop concerts, a bunch of 80-year-olds are going to storm the Capitol,” Fallon joked.
The NBC host then noted that he was “kind of shocked” that Trump hates PBS in particular. “He goes to the same tanning salon as Ernie and Daniel Tiger,” Fallon said. Watch the full opening monologue above.
