Major motorway closes near airport after ‘multi-car crash’ as drivers face long delays
A MAJOR motorway has closed near an airport after a “multi-car crash” – as drivers face long delays.
The M1 is closed in the northbound direction between J11 (Luton) and J11a (Houghton Regis) following the horror crash near Luton Airport, Bedfordshire.
It involved two trucks, a van and three cars, said Inrix.
Cops and ambulance services are attending the scene, along with National Highways Traffic Officers.
Queues currently stretch back past junction 10 for Luton Airport – with drivers warned of ongoing delays.
Those approaching the closure are being directed away via a diversion.
In a statement posted on X, National Highways said: “The M1 in Bedfordshire remains closed northbound between J11 (#Luton) and J11a (#HoughtonRegis) due to a collision.
“We’ve now opened lane 4 to allow traffic that is caught within the closure to pass the scene of the incident.
“Thanks for your patience if you’ve been held up.”
The Sun has contacted Bedfordshire Police for comment.
