Popular English beach named one of the best in Europe and it’s getting a brand new ride this summer
ONE of the UK’s top beaches is getting a new ride in time for summer.
Weymouth was named one of the best beaches in Europe by Tripadvisor last year.
And it is set to welcome a new ride right on the beach.
The main new ride is a huge Ferris wheel, which will be similar to one in Skegness.
The wheel is set to be up to 108ft tall, and have some of the best views of the town.
Other new rides this summer include trampolines, helter skelter and a balloon ride as well as a pirate ship and coaster.
An official opening date for the Ferris wheel is yet to be confirmed but said it will be in “due course” and likely to be in time for the summer holidays.
Weymouth has previously been named the UK’s best beach as well.
Given the accolade by The Times, it beat 49 other beaches that made the list.
It was named the best thanks to its “litter-free beach” as well as amazing fish and chip shops.
Other criteria included parking options, locally run shops and safety of each beach.
It’s cheap when there too, with deck chairs for £2.50 and windbreakers for £3.70.
One tourist wrote on Tripadvisor: “It’s the best beach in the South if not the UK”.
Another went one further, saying: “Best beach in the world.. Love it here.”
The seaside town is also home to the UK’s tallest Mr Whippy ice cream.
Found at Newton’s Cove, the £3 ice cream is a whopping foot tall.
