UAlbany researchers concerned over federal funding freeze
ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Researchers at the University at Albany are voicing concerns over the impacts of the Trump administration's federal funding freeze. They said federal grants are the backbone of their work, and without them, critical research could be delayed or even derailed.
University officials said UAlbany received more than $11 million last year in funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH). That money supports research which could predict tumor growth, treat spinal injuries, accelerate recovery times after strokes, and more.
Two judges have blocked the freeze on governmental grants and loans, and another has temporarily halted the cap on funding from the NIH. However, researchers said they are still experiencing delays in funding and approvals for new projects.
