Poughkeepsie man pleads guilty in crash that killed Bard College student
RED HOOK, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- A guilty plea was issued in Dutchess County Court in connection to a fatal Red Hook crash. Rohan Patrick, 41, pleaded guilty to criminally negligent homicide.
Patrick admitted that on May 25, 2024, he was driving at speeds of 50-60 mph in a 30 mph zone while drowsy. He admitted to struggling to stay awake and maintain control of the car for at least 30 minutes before he hit and killed Linh Hong Nguyen.
"The seriousness of the defendant’s actions and the irreparable harm caused by his negligence. While there was no intention to cause harm, the defendant’s failure to exercise the most basic care led to the tragic and avoidable death of a promising young woman, Ling Hong Nguyen," Dutchess County DA Anthony Parisi said. "This plea is a step toward holding the defendant accountable for his actions and ensuring that such negligence is not overlooked."
Sentencing is set for May 15.
