Red Sox’s Kristian Campbell Had Hilarious ‘Welcome To Big Leagues’ Moment
Kristian Campbell showed in spring training how mature he is for his age, but the Red Sox prospect still is a 22-year-old in MLB.
Boston will start Campbell at second base in its Opening Day matchup against the Texas Rangers at Globe Life Field on Thursday. Campbell learned he made the big league roster last weekend and also learned what life in MLB is like.
“When we got to the hotel in Mexico, he asked who was his roommate,” Cora laughingly told reporters, as seen on NESN’s pregame coverage. “Yesterday, in stretch, everybody was like, ‘Who’s your roommate?’ We kept going, and I met with him last night. Talked to him about his routine and what to expect. ‘The bus is at 1:00, show up at 12:50,’ all that stuff. And then at the end, I said, ‘By the way, there’s no roommates in the big leagues.’ He was like, ‘Oh, no?'”
Roommates are typical in college baseball and minor league baseball, but that’s why MLB is a whole different statosphere that only a select group of players can handle. The Red Sox believe Campbell is ready for MLB, and it doesn’t sound like Boston’s No. 2 prospect is too bummed out about not having a roommate on road trips. That’s why having veterans and team outings are important for young players.
