Family mourns war veteran killed in hit-and-run in St. Martin Parish
BREAUX BRIDGE, La. (KLFY) -- News 10 spoke with a family who mourns the loss of Charles LeBlanc who was killed in Monday morning's hit and run along Doyal Melancon Road.
Leblanc's sister and neighbor Carolyn Leblanc said she got a call Monday morning about deputies blocking off the road in front of her house.
"They were walking around where the body was," Carolyn said. "We didn't know who it was at the time. I didn't know until later on that morning when his son came in, told me that it was his father."
Carolyn said Charles was the second oldest of eight siblings and a war veteran. He built his house years ago where many other members of the family live. She believed her brother was going to his mailbox when he was struck.
"Either he had either gone and put it in and he was coming back, walk back, or he was going to go across and put it in. I'm not sure," Carolyn said.
According to Carolyn drivers speed along the road all the time. The morning of her brother's death was raining and foggy. Even if whoever hit Charles didn't see him, she said they had to felt his body against the vehicle.
"Whoever did it had to have known. I would imagine, you know, that they felt something. They hit they you know, when they hit the, you know, whatever it was they should have looked to, I mean, really, they just have to fess up to it, you know?" Carolyn said.
The St. Martin Parish Sheriff's Office are still searching for the person responsible.
