PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- A person was hospitalized with serious injuries after falling from a 50-foot cliff near a Washington waterfall late Sunday night, officials say.
At around 11:30 p.m., Clark County fire crews and EMS responded to a report of a fall near Big Tree Creek waterfall, east of Yacolt.
On arrival, officials met up with the caller, who led them to a person who was injured at the base of a 50-foot cliff next to the waterfall.
Officials said crews carefully navigated through "steep, dark and slippery terrain" to reach the injured person and give them immediate medical care until a rope rescue could be made.
Soon after, crews from the Volcano Rescue Team and the Clark County Regional Technical Rescue Team implemented a high-angle rope rescue system to safely extricate the injured person.
After the person was raised to the top of the cliff, they were taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
Officials said more than 30 emergency personnel worked to bring the person to safety.
There is no word on their current condition at this time.
