Ilona Maher Called These 2 People After Losing Her Virginity in Her 20s
Ilona Maher is sharing details about what happened after she lost her virginity in her 20s.
The 28-year-old Olympian rugby player spoke out about her experience on her and sisters Olivia Maher and Adrianna Maher‘s House of Maher podcast, which is a Wave Original Series.

“I called mom the day after I lost my virginity,” Ilona said on the episode.
Olivia corrected Ilona by calling it her “sexual debut,” adding, “You didn’t lose anything.”
Ilona agreed, saying that before calling her mom, Mieneke Maher, she called Olivia to share the news.
“I was in a parking lot and we were like, ‘Yeah!!!!” Olivia recalled.
Ilona added that she remembered it “vividly” before going on to share the story of how she let her mom know over the phone about losing her virginity.
“We had family over, I was like, ‘Mom, I gotta talk to you,’” she explained.
“She’s like, ‘Alright, I’ll go upstairs.’ She goes upstairs to the bathroom and I’m like, ‘Mom, I lost my virginity.’ And she was like, ‘Okay. Wow.’”
This was in her 20s, Ilona said, and she remembered telling her mom that she’s going to “need to schedule a gyno for [her] right now” because she’ll “be pretty busy from now on.”
“She accepted the news and was like, ‘Oh, okay. You know be safe … and I’ll get that scheduled for you,’” she recalled.
“I guess she goes back down to sit at the table with the family friends that are there. She’s silent … like catatonic.”
Ilona joked that her mom “didn’t sleep a wink that night.”
“She’s always been that way. We can talk to her about pretty much anything to the point where I’m like, ‘I probably shouldn’t have shared that,’” she explained.
“She stepped up and helped and she got you the appointments,” Olivia noted before Adrianna added that her mother was “making sure her daughter is healthy.”
Ilona remarked that “it’s special to have that sort of relationship with your mom.”
