Axel Arigato Introduces New Sneaker Silhouette
Axel Arigato has introduced a new unisex sneaker silhouette, “Slow Runner,” to its lineup. The shoe, which comes in black and white colorways, is priced at $365 and is available to buy in Axel Arigato stores and online at axelarigato.com.
“The Slow Runner began as a project that was purely based around naive, uncomplicated design — a deliberate dismantling of the past, to create something entirely new for the brand,” said Jens Werner, Axel Arigato’s creative director.
Reworking the Swedish footwear and fashion label’s existing Marathon sneaker, the new shoe features a flat gum outsole and layered leather, suede, and nubuck panelling.
“Through the process of reinterpreting the Marathon style, we wanted to make something that was pure in its approach to simplicity,” he continued. “It was the process of stripping things back to make something that is both contradictory yet familiar.”
A new campaign, shot by photographer Linus Morales, accompanied the shoe’s release. The images were inspired by nostalgic childhood memories, like playing musical chairs.
“Memory and nostalgia, central themes of the season, became a driving force in defining the future. The Slow Runner embodies these tensions — old and new, technical yet unpretentious, a bridge between what was and what’s to come,” Werner added.
In one image, models are pictured running around brown bean bag chairs, while in another, they’re splayed out across the floor — all tired out from their sprint.
The latest addition to Axel Arigato’s sneaker lineup comes on the heels of its collaboration with GmbH in October. That style came in metallic silver and patent black colorways, and featured a chainmail mesh detail that Axel Arigato said reflected GmbH’s stance against racism and fascism in its work.
