Third Eastmoor murder suspect extradited from Michigan to face charges
COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) – The third of three murder suspects has been brought to Franklin County, 11 months after an alleged drug deal led to a shooting and car crash in east Columbus.
According to court documents, 21-year-old Destin Rivers will face charges in Franklin County Court of Common Pleas, more than two months after he was arrested in Michigan. Rivers, along with Deion Ray, 19, and Timothy Brown, 23, are accused in the murder of 28-year-old Shandar Weaver, who was found suffering from a gunshot wound in a crashed car.
Police report that on Feb. 28, 2024, Weaver was in contact with Ray and planned to purchase marijuana from him in an alley behind the 3100 block of East Main Street, near the James Road intersection in Eastmoor.
Rivers and Ray, who were dropped off by Brown according to a court affidavit, were seen on video surveillance approaching a car in the alley. That’s where police say Rivers reached inside the vehicle and shot Weaver.
Weaver was found in the car after he drove south on James Road and crashed into a pole. He was taken to an area hospital but pronounced dead a short time later. For a previous report on this story view the video player above.
Ray was arrested in July and pleaded not guilty to one count each of murder, aggravated robbery and tampering with evidence. Brown, who was arrested on Dec. 26, also pleaded not guilty to the same charges. They were each given $1 million bonds in municipal court.
Rivers, who fled central Ohio and was arrested in Michigan's St. Clair County, northeast of Detroit, was extradited to Franklin County this week. On Wednesday morning his case was moved to common pleas court, where he has yet to enter a plea. He faces charges of murder and aggravated robbery.
