Djed Spence says the sky is the limit for one Tottenham youngster
Djed Spence has been left mightily impressed by how one Tottenham teammate has stepped up this season and admits that he sometimes forgets just how young the player is.
There was plenty of scepticism last summer among some sections of the Tottenham fan base after the club decided to spend a big portion of the summer transfer budget on various teenagers.
However, Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall have both thrived, while Wilson Odobert has also shown his quality since recovering from injury, with all three signings now appearing extremely prudent moves by Spurs.
Gray, in particular, has shown maturity beyond his years, thriving in his first season at the Premier League level despite being asked to play out of position for much of the campaign.
Djed Spence makes an admission about Archie Gray
Spence has had the opportunity to watch Gray’s development in close quarters, with the full-back also having spent the first half of last season on loan at Leeds when the youngster was first breaking into the first-team at Elland Road.
The 24-year-old remarked that the teenager can become as good as he wants to, admitting that he sometimes finds it difficult to believe how young he is.
Spence told Rio Ferdinand presents about the Tottenham midfielder: “The sky is the limit for him! I forget he’s 19 sometimes. I have to look at myself. Playing out of position, 19. He’s a midfielder playing centre back and he’s doing well. He’s a great talent.”
Tottenham told to expect bids for Archie Gray
While there is a lot of excitement at Spurs about how good the 19-year-old can become, the North London club have been warned that the youngster’s impressive form may attract unwarranted attention.
Former Brentford Boss Martin Allen has asserted that Tottenham could receive bids of around £50m for Gray when the transfer window reopens in the summer.
One would expect Daniel Levy and the Spurs hierarchy to dismiss any offers for the versatile midfielder, given the trajectory he seems to be on.
