Marvel Unveils ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Cast as Production Begins on MCU Sequel
Marvel Studios’ “Avengers: Doomsday” has started production.
And to honor the super-heroic moment, Marvel Studios is hosting a livestream of … chairs. Now, mind you, they are director-type chairs with the name of the actors on the back.
The camera is moving down the list of said chairs – so far, they have revealed Chris Hemsworth, returning as Thor; Vanessa Kirby, who plays Sue Storm in the upcoming “Fantastic Four: First Steps” (in theaters this summer); Anthony Mackie, the current Captain America (his “Captain America: Brave New World” opened earlier this year); Letitia Wright (the new Black Panther); recent Oscar nominee Sebastian Stan, who plays Bucky Barnes aka the Winter Soldier (he’ll star in bad guy team-up movie “Thunderbolts” in May); Paul Rudd, who plays Ant-Man in multiple films; Wyatt Russell, who will reprise his “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” role of John Walker in “Thunderbolts;” Tenoch Huerta Mejía, who played antagonist Namor in “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever;” Ebon Moss-Bachrach, who will play Ben Grimm, aka The Thing, in the upcoming “Fantastic Four” movie; Simu Liu, who played “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings;” Florence Pugh who has played Yelena Belova, beginning with “Black Widow;” and Kelsey Grammer, who played Hank McCoy, aka Beast, in the Fox “X-Men” movies.
Watch the chair reveal, below.
How long will this livestream go on? And what will be left of us by the time it’s over? Only one way to find out – hang in there and watch the chairs!
“Avengers: Doomsday” sees the return of some Marvel Studios titans – it will be directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, who helmed “Avengers: Infinity War” and “Avengers: Endgame,” two of the most popular movies of all time. It will also reunite them with Robert Downey Jr., who instead of playing Tony Stark/Iron Man, will be filling the role of Victor von Doom aka Doctor Doom. (“Doomsday,” get it?) Stephen McFeely, another Russo Brothers regular and co-screenwriter of their “Avengers” movies, will also return to the project.
Plus, Marvel has already announced the sequel to “Avengers: Doomsday,” which will again be helmed by the Russos and feature Downey, entitled “Avengers: Secret Wars.” That movie will be out a year after “Doomsday.”
“Avengers: Doomsday” hits theaters on May 1, 2026, while “Avengers: Secret Wars” will arrive on May 7, 2027.
